Wildcats basketball start their season with strong wins

The St. Catherine University women’s basketball team have started their season strong with a current 3-1 record, with their first MIAC game happening Nov. 19th at Concordia Moorhead.
I watched their game on Nov. 8th against Macalester, which the Wildcats won 68 - 49. The Wildcats set the tone early with nonstop defensive energy and never gave the Scots a chance to recover.
St. Kate’s controlled the floor throughout the game, outscoring Macalester 50–8 inside and forcing 21 turnovers. The team’s pressure defense came alive with 16 steals, leading to plenty of fast-break points and second-chance buckets.
Sophomore guard Hattie Fox led the scoring with 22 points, hitting two from deep and going 6-for-8 at the line. Jordyn Peed followed right behind with 20 points and filled up the stat sheet with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and a block.
Kristen Oberle sparked the defense with 6 steals while adding 8 points and 4 rebounds. Lily Peper and Elle Covey chipped in valuable minutes in the post, combining for 13 points and 9 boards.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 20–14 lead after the first quarter and stretched it to 39–27 by halftime. They never looked back—holding Macalester to just one field goal in the final quarter.
With confidence and chemistry building early in the season, St. Kate’s will look to keep the momentum going as their season continues.
