It’s official! The Wildcats are beginning a brand new chapter, leaving behind Adidas and stepping into Nike. The switch has already sparked excitement among athletes, who say the fresh gear and new look bring a whole new energy to St. Kate’s sports. Many see it as more than just a brand change — it’s a moment that adds pride, confidence, and momentum heading into the season.
Athletes across different sports have voiced their excitement about the transition. A soccer player shared that she was “extremely happy” about the switch, while a runner from the track team echoed the sentiment, saying she likes the new Nike gear as well.
Deputy Athletic Director Madge Makowske explained that the switch came after careful consideration of what would best serve St. Kate’s athletes. “As we continue to work strategically to improve our athletic brand, the decision to transition to a Nike school provided us the best opportunity,” she said. BSN Sports played a key role in the partnership to enhance women’s leadership in athletics.
According to Makowske, discussions began back in April with multiple vendors, including Adidas and Under Armour. By June, the department officially started its transition to Nike.
The hardest part? Timing. Practice gear and the fan shop are already all Nike, but a few teams will still be playing in Adidas uniforms until the full rollout is done.
Athlete feedback was also a big part of the decision. “Our studentathletes and coaching staff played a vital role in making the transition,” Makowske said. The department worked closely with each program to evaluate needs and opportunities before finalizing the move.
Despite those hurdles, Makowske is optimistic about the change. “We’re excited for something new and the opportunities the partnership can provide our department,” she said. “We hope the student athletes are able to compete in the most elite gear while performing at an elite level.”
No matter the sport, the Wildcats are carrying more than a logo this season. They’re carrying pride, drive, and the spirit of what it means to represent St. Catherine University
