Tutoring & Learning Center Find a New Home in the Library

When students walked into the library this fall, they may have noticed more than just the books. The Tutoring & Learning Center has found a new home after moving from the basement in August, and the change is already reshaping the way students connect with academic support on campus.

Emily Asch, Director of Library and Learning, shared her excitement about the move. “We are excited to be able to start creating cozier spaces for groups and individual work throughout the library without needing a separate room,” she said. “We look forward to seeing how these get used this year and continue to add other new types of areas and furniture for all of our students and their needs.”

The relocation wasn’t only about upgrading the space; it was about making it more accessible and visible for students. “The move brings academic support departments together for convenient student access and collaborative support,” Asch explained. She added that being in the library helps normalize seeking support, breaking down barriers for students who might hesitate to ask for help.

Students can still count on flexible options to connect with tutors. Appointments are available online, with hours running between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., depending on tutor availability and subject area. For those who prefer to drop in, the center hosts study nights and write-ins, often featuring donuts and coffee to fuel students through their work.

The new library setting also reflects student feedback. Soft chairs and flexible study areas have been added to create an environment where learning feels comfortable and approachable. “We encourage an active library where learning and exploration can happen in many different ways,” Asch said. “From collaborative group to quiet solo study to doing your homework with the buzz of activity around you.”

Asch invited students to experience the changes firsthand. “We would love it if you would come for a tour and chat with some staff and students from the Library and Tutoring and Learning,” she said.

With its new location, updated spaces, and expanding vision, the Tutoring & Learning Center is becoming more than just a resource; it's a hub for connection, collaboration, and academic growth at St. Kate’s.
