Fall festivities

Fall festivities

By Lillian Huber

Fall brings falling leaves, changing colors and cooler weather. Maybe it’s something in the air, but fall seems to bring out everyone’s desire to spend time with friends and family and enjoy seasonal activities. Well, if you find yourself among these people, don't fret, for I have a list of fun activities everyone can join in. The activities range in price and are suitable for different ages, so if you’re a fall fanatic, keep reading for plenty of ideas to enjoy the season.

Fall Festivities:

  • Bake! Make apple/pumpkin pie, cookies with cinnamon, caramel apples, crème brûlée and anything with pumpkin spice!

  • Go to an apple orchard and pick apples!

  • Listen to spooky music.

  • Make homemade apple cider! There are plenty of recipes on the internet to support you in this endeavor.

  • Cuddle up with a blanket and read a book or do a crossword puzzle.

  • Watch Charlie Brown.

  • Go to a pumpkin patch! Pick out a pumpkin and carve it.

  • Go to a fall festival! Go on a hay ride and explore a corn maze. Get your face painted as a leaf or eat a caramel apple.

  • Go to the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the Minnesota Zoo, which is open till Nov. 1. Here, one can see many beautifully carved pumpkins illuminated by light. Each ticket costs $18-$26, depending on the time you go.

  • Go for a walk and find a beautiful spot to take photos of the yellow and orange leaves.

  • Find a coffee shop and write a story about fall while listening to jazz and drinking chai tea.

  • Bob for apples at your house with friends and family. Get a bucket of water and put apples in it, and there you go, now you can bob for apples!

  • Drink tea and watch the leaves fall.

  • Watch a scary movie with lots of buttery popcorn.

  • Make fall decorations! Get cardboard and paint anything you want on it, maybe a yellow leaf or a pumpkin, then cut it out. Now you have a cute and easy decoration!

  • Go to a farmers' market and pick out 3 new things you want to try!

  • Make fall candles. Get a container, like an empty can or jar, put a candle wick at the bottom, then melt your wax and add essential oils. Now, after you stir your wax mixture, pour the wax into the bottom of your container and let it cool!

  • Go to Goodwill and pick out some fall outfits for you and your friends, then go to a nice seasonal restaurant!

  • Go visit the Twin Cities Harvest Fest, which is open until November 1 and features a huge corn maze, a petting zoo and many delicious fall treats. Each ticket is $20 per person.

  • Go on a picnic and make art with leaves you find while eating tasty treats.

  • Jump into a pile of leaves.

  • Go on a hike on a nearby trail.

  • Make stone soup with friends and family. Stone soup is a great recipe to make during the fall as it represents sharing and community. This soup comes from a children’s book called “Stone Soup.” In this book, people do not have enough to eat, so they get a pot with water and put a stone in it. Then each household contributed a different ingredient, and together they made a tasty soup. There are many variations of the recipe, as each uses different ingredients, but as long as the soup contains a stone, it is stone soup!

I hope one or more of these ideas intrigued you and enticed you to go out into the world and spread the fall spirit!

Go get your fall pants on and enjoy this beautiful season!
